Affected by the new crown epidemic, the Gulf League was suspended in March this year. German coach Schaefer also ended his one-year coaching trip at Baniyas Club in the UAE Premier League and returned to Germany. In their spare time, Germans often watch the Chinese Super League matches and show a keen interest in Chinese football.
Winfried Schäfer (Winfried Schäfer)'s player career began in Monchengladbach, he was born in poverty and was excavated by scouts from Borussia. Under the training of Weissweiler, the coach of Munchen, who makes good use of new recruits, the talented Schaefer quickly improved, and later grew up with Netzel, Berti Vogts, Heynckes A member of the eponymous "Wild Horse" generation.
Schaefer’s player career was very successful. As the core of the midfielder, he played for Mönchen, Offenbach kicker, Karlsruhe and other teams. He played 403 times in the German top league and helped the team successively in 1970. Won the Bundesliga and the German Cup.
At the end of Schaefer's playing career, he often coached an amateur team at night. After retiring, Schaefer immediately embarked on the road of coaching. After three years in the second team of Monchen, Schaefer came to Karlsruhe. In the first year of Karlsruhe, the Germans brought the team to the top league and played in the top league for 12 consecutive years. Until Schaefer left, Karlsruhe, who had lost his backbone, fell into the secondary league again.
After leaving Karlsruhe, Schaefer coached Stuttgart and Berlin Tebe successively, and chose to travel to Cameroon at the age of 51 to meet new challenges. Although due to various reasons, the African Lions had a poor record in the 2002 World Cup, under Schaefer’s adjustments, the team quickly returned to the right track and won the 2002 Mali Africa Cup, and broke into 2003. The final of the Confederations Cup.
In 2005, Schaefer set foot on the Asian continent. He has successively coached in Dubai National, Al Ain, Tehran Independence, Thailand National Team and other teams, and gradually has a deeper understanding and feelings for Asian football.
Following the first part of Schaefer’s interview published yesterday, today I bring you the second part of the content.
The efforts made by Chinese footballers in the development of football are impressive, so people are always curious why the performance of the national team has not been improved. This is rare in the world of football. Of course, Chinese clubs have already shined in the AFC Champions League.
I have not visited the youth academies in China, but I guess they have not yet constructed their own football style. It's not feasible to build a Spanish, German or English football style out of thin air, no matter where it is. Look at the Spanish football schools all over the world (maybe inspired),
of course. I also said before,
I have talked with some of them, and encountering various difficulties in the process of adapting to the new environment is the most common problem. I am not surprised by this, but it is something that pleases me. It is very important to always open up ideas and always try new things instead of teaching skills and tactics. Some coaches do not have much experience in Germany or even outside Europe. But on the other hand, they are deeply impressed by China's rapid development in various aspects in recent years and its future potential.
You're right. I mentioned this earlier. But we must understand the club’s strategy. For Chinese football, the introduction of these star players is very important, because fans want to see them, and excellent foreign players can also become role models for local players. But as I said before,
, Because you can play beautiful football only when you really enjoy the game. Of course, players can run and fight with their super willpower, but to play creative football, they must have a passion for the sport and be tireless to develop it.
(The areas that need improvement) can be summarized in the following points. There are some indispensable steps to improve team cohesion and personal ability. The most important point is to maintain the relationship between the national team coach and the players, as well as the club to which the players belong. Everyone needs to work together. This is a challenge for everyone, but an excellent coaching team and a good attitude make it possible. So the focus should be on development. In contrast, this is more complicated than naturalization, which means introducing more foreign coaches, but this is the right strategy to ensure future development.
Chinese clubs have hired many very good coaches. I respect many of them. But sometimes just being a good coach is not enough. You also need to be a good football teacher. You need to think in new ways. If your work experience is to work with outstanding players from top European clubs, then you will find that you will face new challenges in China. As I said before, all this has to do with the development of local players and their expectations and adaptation to the game.
When I came to coach in an Iranian club, only two players on my team were members of the national team. But six months later, eight of our teams were called up by the national team. When I started coaching in Baniyas, I had the youngest team in the league. Within six months, five players from our team were called into the U21 national team and two teams were called into the national team. When I talk about my experience, I not only talk about my age, but also many countries where I have worked.
There are not as many intercommunication places as I imagined. But I am always fascinated by Chinese history and culture, and I am willing to learn more about the differences between Chinese and German cultures. In terms of football culture, China and Germany have many similarities. For example, I think both China and Germany value hard work and perseverance. We never give up when faced with difficulties and pressures. And when faced with difficulties, we will actively seek out solutions to problems, which enables us to have strong creativity and resistance to pressure. This quality is very important both on the court and in life.
We don't communicate much. Although it was very interesting to communicate with them, the conversation was too short and not deep enough. I pay close attention to the development of Chinese football, so I often ask myself why the Chinese national team has not achieved greater success so far? At that forum, I met some Chinese coaches. They are very easy to learn and I admire them very much. I really value whether a person is studious.
No matter where I work, I will help local young coaches. I think this is part of my responsibilities. I not only help the players, but also help the young local coaches.
This is due to my genetic advantages, and I have been living a healthy and self-disciplined life. I feel very lucky for myself. The only thing I may need to pay attention to is my diet. In addition, I have a group of young assistant coaches who work with me, face challenges with me, and implement my training arrangements specifically in the team. I can continue to work as a coach because of these outstanding young people. I think everything I will do next must be driven by ambition and interest.
First of all, I want to say that you are very important to the future development of Chinese football. Young people like you who love football, are curious, and good at asking questions are the key force for development. You must stick to it, exchange ideas with more coaches and players, and maintain the spirit of questioning and criticism under the premise of equality and respect. If you have the opportunity, you must go to a Chinese club to see and learn. While you are helping to do something there, you can observe and understand what the general environment of Chinese football is like.
